The present article allows to explore, analyze and reflect on the consequences and problems posed by biobanks and attempts to prove the need of social and humanitarian support in establishing and functioning of biobanks as a new type of scientific institutions. The basis of the article is the latest publications devoted to social and humanitarian aspects of biobanking and Russian experience of the initial formation of this subject domain. The article marks and classifies different aspects of biobanking that objectively demands (...) the participation of specialists in ethics and social sciences. The cases of biobanking development and risks are estimated; the objective need of applied ethics and social sciences specialists’ participation in biobanking is proved. (shrink)

The author considers two additions to analysis of technoscience, suggested by Olga Koshovets and Igor Frolov. First, technoscience is not just regime of knowledge production, which brings into play enormous technological and organizational resources, but is a regime, regulated by mandatory requirement to produce knowledge, which should be transformed into endowed with market value goods and services (technoobjects). Second, technoscience is an ever-faster colonization of natural and social worlds by technoobjects. In the author's view, the main problem with technoscience is (...) not to hold the next round of conceptual clarification and theoretical reorganization of previous distinctions (nature/society, basic science/applied science, scientific fact/technoobject, social connections/technological connections) or introduction of new ones. The challenge is how to turn the concrete realization of technoscience into empirical research objects. The complexity of such enterprise is demonstrated in the case of research biobanking, which has become one of exemplary embodiment of technoscience and contemporary mode of biopolitics. (shrink)

The proposed text develops a number of provisions of N.I. Kuznetsova’s article “Oxymoron of the Vienna Circle”. Special attention is paid to the intellectual heritage of the Vienna Circle, which is in many ways paradoxical – rejected and simultaneously operational.

In his paper, “Grand Unified Gauge Theories and the Number of Elementary Particles,“ Robert Weingard suggests what he calls the Extended Redhead's Principle for elementary particles: “Two particles for which there are conceivable circumstances in which one can be ‘rotated’ or reoriented into the other are the same particles”. The philosophical soundness of such a principle is questionable.

The main aim of this paper is to assess the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of university teachers regarding plagiarism in Bangladesh. An online questionnaire consisted of 20 knowledge questions, 23 attitude items, and 18 practice questions was created using Google Forms. The link to the questionnaire was sent via email to university teachers. The total correct answers for knowledge and practice questions, and the total attitude score were converted to percentile scores and categorized accordingly as poor ( mean (...) + 1 SD). Bivariate analyses were conducted to compare the total knowledge, attitude and practice scores based on demographic and academic variables. Multiple linear regressions were used to identify the association between knowledge, attitude and practice scores, and other covariates. The findings revealed an average level of knowledge, attitude and practice regarding plagiarism among the majority of university teachers. The knowledge, attitude and practice scores were significantly higher for teachers who attended academic writing workshops compared to those who did not attend such events. Demographic and academic variables did not impact knowledge and attitude scores. However, the number of papers published in the last two years and their indexing in Web of Science (WoS) or Scopus significantly impacted attitude and knowledge scores. The multiple regression analyses showed that the practice score was significantly associated with age, highest education, and knowledge. (shrink)

Мета. У статті передбачено реконструювати хід філософської думки Г. Сковороди, що дасть можливість виявити контекст становлення його ідеї турботливого ставлення до природи. Теоретичний базис. Теоретико-методологічну основу статті склали базові ідеї дослідників екологічної проблематики, а також розробки представників Київської світоглядно-антропологічної школи, пов’язані з дослідженням учення українського філософа. Наукова новизна. Будучи сучасником і свідком становлення та реалізації настанови на повне перетворення світу природи, Г. Сковорода здійснює геніальну спробу окреслити її альтернативу. Її змістовною передумовою є теза про тотожність Бога і природи, а формами (...) категоріального вираження – поняття "вдячність" і "невдячність". Для філософа природа як доцільність є взірцем та еталоном поведінки людини, яка має наслідувати природу (метафора вчителя та лікаря як служителів природи). Для Г. Сковороди теза про вдячність людини Богу означає а) пріоритетність для людини вищих смислів, які доступні у формі самопізнання, та б) турботу про збереження природи як творіння Бога. Висновки. У статті аргументовано, що Г. Сковорода як сучасник і свідок формування настанови на повне підкорення природи задумується над її альтернативою. Звертання до контексту її формування дозволяє нам виявити його основні принципи. На сторінках діалогу "Благодарний Еродій" він нагадує людині про те, що як частина природи вона має перед нею певні зобов’язання. Основоположними категоріями Г. Сковороди тут є "вдячність" і "невдячність". До форм виявлення вдячності належить ідея про те, що природа як втілення доцільності є законодавцем людського способу життя. Сьогодні, на початку ХХІ ст., коли людство шукає той категоричний імператив сучасності, який дозволить зберегти природу, корисним і плідним є звертання до спадщини українського філософа ХVІІІ ст. Г. Сковороди. Він є одним із тих геніальних попередників, спадщина якого має значний евристичний потенціал. Ідеться про те, що в процесі осмислення історії людства ХХ – початку ХХІ ст., яка є демонстрацією наслідків завищеної оцінки людської активності, Г. Сковорода дає нам ключ до більш глибокого розуміння сучасності. (shrink)

The Greek original of Galen's is lost, nor has a copy of the complete translation into Arabic, made by Hunayn b. Ishāq in the first half of the ninth century, come down to us, though some passages of it are quoted by various Arab authors. A summary of the translation, however, was discovered by P. Kraus in a miscellaneous manuscript in Cairo and published by him in the Bulletin of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Egypt, vol. v/i.

Hazrat Sharafuddin bin Yahyah Maneri was a scholar and Sufi of the thirteenth-fourteenth centuries. He was a prolific writer. One of his important books is a collection of letters titled Maktubat-i-Sadi. The article focuses to bring out the main themes of the book and identified ten topics to discussed. They are: 1. Concept and love of God; 2. Deceiving nature of the world; 3. Sin and repentance; 4. Necessity of a qualified spiritual guide and obedience to his guidance; 5. Origin (...) and need of Sufism; 6. Poverty and its role in the purification of evil soul; 7. Rendering selfless service to others; 8. Fate and predestination; 9. Observance of the Shariah; and 10. Acquisition of good qualities and shunning of the evil ones. The philosophical and spiritual significance of these teachings have been pointed out in this article. Within the scope of multifactor approach, the ways and peculiarities of nonlinear paradigm formation and its establishment, as well as, multidimensional nature and essence of things in a single research field of the interdisciplinary science that is directly based on the perception of multidimensional integrity of the real world were significantly reconsidered. The idea of multifactorness is deployed as the scientific and logical basis for the methodology of scientific and philosophical research.
